GB News mocked after claiming Burnham ‘refused to take question’ from them

"Have they uploaded the wrong video?"

GB News has been mocked after they claimed Andy Burnham ‘refused to take a question’ from their political editor.

On Wednesday, Burnham took questions from the press after delivering a speech about his aim for social care reform in England.

During the press conference, the prime minister took a question from Sky News’s Sam Coates.

As Coates was speaking, GB News’s political editor Christopher Hope could be seen in the background raising his hand, seemingly in an attempt to ask a question to Burnham.

Given that Coates was already speaking, Burnham of course ignored Hope.

But GB News decided this was evidence of bias from the Labour leader, and clipped up the moment to share it on social media.

They wrote in a post on X: “Watch: Andy Burnham refuses to take a question from GB News’ Political Editor @ChristopherHope at his first press conference as Prime Minister.”

Hope himself shared the clip as well, saying it was “disappointing from the new PM.”

But the video clearly didn’t get the reaction GB News was hoping for though, as everyone mocked the right-wing channel for claiming Hope had been ‘refused a question.’

A community note soon appeared under the tweet, reading: “During the video posted by GB News, Sam Coates of Sky is in the middle of asking a question. At no point does the Prime Minister refuse to answer a question from GB News.”

Some even wondered if GB News had shared the wrong clip, with many struggling to see what Burnham was supposed to have done and what the channel were moaning about.

Sorry, do you expect Burnham to call on Chris whilst Sam Coates is mid-question? https://t.co/cv3Y65N5hR

Have they uploaded the wrong video? Someone is literally in the middle of talking. Is the PM supposed to stop them and ask someone else a question? https://t.co/MyonTGXGiY

Am I missing something here, someone is literally mid-question???? https://t.co/QIH3mknnDC

This is complete BS

After Burnham finished answering the questions from ITV News’, Rebecca Barry, he then says “Next one, sorry, Sam Coates – looking right at him”

Coates stands up & begins his questioning before Hope meekly & pointlessly raises his hand. There is no refusal https://t.co/coQLPj2Cm5

Of course, we wouldn’t blame Burnham if he had ignored GB News’s request for a question, given that the channel is now little more than a right-wing propaganda vehicle for Nigel Farage, Reform MPs and washed-up Tories.
