Abdul El-Sayed trolled Donald Trump and JD Vance after winning the Michigan Senate race to become America’s first ever Muslim Senator.

El-Sayed is projected to win the Michigan Senate seat after what has been one of the most bitter and hard-fought campaigns in the midterms.

The Democrat has been the subject of several Islamophobic attacks from Republicans. This included Trump alleging he was a “jihadist” and that he would need to walk through a metal detector to get into the Senate.

The president had also mocked El-Sayed’s name.

Meanwhile, vice president Vance had labelled El-Sayed “evil.”

But in the early hours of Wednesday, as El-Sayed became the latest Democrat victory on a stunning night for the party, he had a message for Trump and Vance.

In his victory speech to supporters, he said: “JD, habibi, there is this delicious irony in the fact that you’re constitutionally obligated to swear me in in January!”

El-Sayed then moved on to Trump, saying: “Donald, look, I know you struggle with my name so after JD swears me in in January, you can just go on and call me Senator!”

The Democrats have regained control of both chambers of Congress on as the Republicans suffered a resounding night of defeats in the midterms.

With 367 of the 435 House seats counted, the Democrats have already passed the magic 218 threshold to gain control of the lower chamber, with 228 seats.

But the real story has come in the Senate, where the Democrats have won stunning victories in Republican strongholds such as Texas, Ohio and Kansas, whilst also winning every ‘swing’ state in play.

They’ve passed the 50 seats to gain control of the Senate, and currently have 54 seats to the Republicans’ 44.
