Robert Jenrick has deleted a post on X in which he shared a doctored voice recording of a Labour minister talking about small boat crossings.
On Wednesday, Jenrick had posted a recording of immigration minister Jo White on X.
In the clip, White is heard saying during a meeting with her Bassetlaw constituents: “I don’t care who will stop the boats.”
Jenrick shared the audio recording with the caption: “Meet the new immigration minister. Burnham clearly doesn’t give a stuff about stopping the boats. We need a general election.”

However, it has since emerged that this was a doctored recording that missed crucial context from White’s comments.
In the full clip, which was later shared by White on social media, the Labour MP is heard saying: “My focus is to make sure that we stop those boats […] I don’t care who will stop the boats […] but my number one priority is to stop those boats.”
White asked for an apology from Reform for the misinformation spread by Jenrick.
She wrote on X: “Robert Jenrick is spreading a false account of what I said at a meeting with my constituents last year.
“This recording proves what I said. Reform have deliberately twisted my words to mislead the public.
“They should withdraw their false claim and immediately apologise.”
Jenrick has since deleted the post but has made no public comment or apology about his clear spreading of misinformation.
Former immigration minister Mike Tapp has also called on Jenrick to apologise for spreading misinformation.
He wrote: “Fair and contentious debate is fine, spreading lies and misinformation is not.”
