$446 Million well spent? Elon Musk to face ‘onslaught of investigations’ after midterms flop

Elon Musk made a half-billion dollar bet on the Midterm Elections, and lost miserably. Now, things may get even worse for the ex-trillionaire.

Actions, meet consequences. It’s not even been two years since an overly giddy Elon Musk took to the stage for Donald Trump’s second inauguration, and performed an incredibly questionable salute to the crowd. Now, the world’s richest man may be wishing he had instead kept a low profile.

How much did Elon Musk spend on the Midterm Elections?

The SpaceX owner wasn’t shy when it came to bankrolling the Republicans and their doomed efforts to retain control of the House and the Senate. On Tuesday night, both chambers jack-knifed towards Democrat control – essentially rendering Donald Trump as a lame-duck president.

It’s estimated that Elon Musk ploughed an eye-watering $446 million into various campaigns, propping up candidates endorsed by Trump. Many took a beating – namely Ken Paxton, who received roughly 10% of this windfall to support his bid for re-election in Texas, only to lose the race to James Talarico.

Blue wave flips red seats, putting Democrats ‘in control’

If the man who briefly became a trillionaire earlier this year was hoping for a return on his investment, he’d be hard-pressed to find anything of the like. Red states such as Kansas, Ohio, and Michigan were all won by Democrat opponents. Whatever influence Musk had over the electorate in 2024, it is long gone.

What’s more, the failure to prevent a ‘blue wave’ won’t just leave Elon with egg on his face. As satisfying as that is for the casual schadenfreude fan, it also appears that there will be some very real and very difficult problems the tech mogul will have to contend with over the next two years.

As reported by Forbes, the Democrats are gearing up to launch ‘an onslaught of investigations’ into Donald Trump – and individuals connected to him. Musk has already vowed to fight fire with fire, threatening to ‘live and die by the sword’ if he is subjected to the Congressional process.

Elon Musk set to face ‘slew of probes’ after disastrous midterms

The wheels are already turning. Last month, several senior Democrats spoke about the need to politically probe Elon Musk. It has been floated that his alleged interference in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, where he is accused of limiting Ukraine’s access to Starlink, will be at the top of the agenda.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren has also gone public in her concerns about Musk’s multiple contracts with the government, labelling the potential conflicts of interest as ‘astounding’. The strongest threat of all, though, was made by Richard Blumenthal. The Senator is calling for a full inquiry into the failed DOGE experiment:
